On 15 August 2026, thanks to the timely, rapid, and coordinated response of the employees of the Public Institution National Park “Mavrovo”, the fire that broke out near the village of Bibaj was successfully contained and extinguished, preventing its further spread and potential threat to the surrounding natural environment.

According to initial findings, there is a suspicion that the fire was caused by human activity. The incident once again highlights the need for maximum caution and responsible behavior when spending time in nature, especially during periods when the risk of fires occurring and spreading rapidly is increased.

The Public Institution National Park “Mavrovo” urges all residents, visitors, and users of the National Park to act conscientiously and responsibly, not to leave waste or flammable materials behind, and to strictly follow all fire prevention measures and recommendations.

Protecting our natural heritage is not only the responsibility of institutions and competent services, but also a shared responsibility of every individual. Only through careful and responsible behavior can we protect the forests, biodiversity, and natural values of National Park “Mavrovo”.

A timely response prevents damage, but responsible behavior prevents fires.
